About me…

Hi!

George here…

Here is a little about me, my shop and how it came to be…

Having studied Sociology, psychology and Art and Design at A level… I was pretty sure I didn’t want to work that closely with people!

I have often joked that the care required for people and plants is very similar… plants simply have less complicated emotional issues.

So following a a bit of travelling to India and Nepal when I left school my fate was decided after a meal with friends.

We had been discussing future plans, some of us had taken a gap year, some had gone straight to University, others had got jobs…

I was still undecided until when I opened the complimentary fortune cookie following our Chinese meal we had just had.

The message read…. Nature herself makes the wise man rich.

so…

I applied to Otley college and studied Holistic horticulture . Over the last 20 years I have worked as a garden designer, landscaper and plantsman for for both local firms and a company in Chelsea. Upon returning to the region from London accepted the role as Head gardener at a stately home. During my time there we undertook some exciting projects including the laying out and planting of a yew tree hedge maze!

About 12 years ago I started growing plants as a hobby and then selling at car boot sales and farmers markets which I enjoyed enormously and folks always enjoyed and complimented me on how passionately I talked about firstly my plants but natural systems in general…

It was by chance I received an email from my current landlord who had just beautifully restored their Victorian greenhouse. I thought a chance like this would never land in my lap again… so I took it.

George’s Gorgeous Gardens The Plant Shop was born in February 2018 in the beautiful and historic grounds of Earsham Hall on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

I took an unused space of the grounds, including the restored Victorian greenhouse, and turned it into a vibrant shop packed with special plants from across the world.

I focus on using the natural rhythm of moon cycles and subtle energies to care for and grow my plants . I am always happy to help customers in selecting the right plants that complement the biodiversity and ecosystem of your garden space.

At the shop I stock plants for all seasons and occasions, whether you need a new house plant to add interest to your living room , unusual shrubs or some late seasonal perennial colour to add an injection to your garden borders.

I have some fantastic and unusual plants beautifully displayed and helpful care advice on offer.
